Premium PSU Joins the Open Compute Project: Power Architectures for the Next Generation of Data Centers

Premium PSU Joins the Open Compute Project: Power Architectures for the Next Generation of Data Centers

Premium PSU is proud to announce that it is now a member of the Open Compute Project (OCP). As part of this commitment, we will actively contribute to the development of Open Rack power architectures, with a specific focus on PSU and BBU solutions for next-generation data centers.

In parallel, Premium PSU is advancing the development of high-power architectures for hyperscale and AI data centers, including 800 V DC rack power distribution.

Contributing to Open Rack Power Architectures

The Open Compute Project provides a collaborative framework to define open and interoperable data center technologies. Within this ecosystem, Premium PSU’s contribution is focused on power subsystems that are critical for modern Open Rack deployments:

  • Power Supply Units (PSU)

  • Battery Backup Units (BBU)

These elements play a key role in ensuring reliable and efficient power delivery as rack power levels and system complexity continue to increase.

Advancing High-Power Architectures for Hyperscale and AI

At the same time, Premium PSU is developing power architectures designed for hyperscale and AI data centers. One of these architectures is based on 800 V DC rack power distribution, enabling:

  • Centralized high-voltage AC/DC conversion

  • Efficient 800 V DC power delivery at rack level

  • Scalable DC-DC conversion close to the load

  • Reduced current, lower losses, and improved overall efficiency

  • Power scalability aligned with AI and GPU-dense workloads

These characteristics support high-power rack environments while maintaining a clear focus on efficiency and scalability.

Supporting the Evolution of Data Center Power

This approach supports the transition toward higher-voltage DC distribution, designed to meet the growing power density and efficiency demands of hyperscale and Open Rack environments.

By aligning power architecture development with open specifications, Premium PSU aims to ensure compatibility, scalability, and long-term viability for next-generation data centers.
