DC/AC inverters for UV lights in HVAC systems – Fighting Coronavirus
The global pandemic is challenging everyday life. Having a germ-free environment in trains is nowadays vital for the public transportation systems around the world. The heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system creates a comfortable temperature for passengers regulating and exchanging air from the outside through filter systems. To try to reduce the viral load in the air, main HVAC manufacturers are including an air-sanitizing system in their devices. The HVAC systems are starting to be equipped with UV lamps for a high-efficiency virus neutralizer, so the passing air is treated with UV radiation before it is returned to the passenger area.
The Challenge
At Premium, we are aware of the current situation and consider the new requirements in customer needs, supporting railway operators and assisting them to restore normality in the use public transport for mobility. The use of ultraviolet light as fungicide, bactericide and viricide is supported by practice in high biological safety laboratories, although the railway environment will require ensuring the absence of exposure of passengers and operators to UV radiation, as well as to properly size the system based on the characteristics of the SARS-CoV-2 pathogen against this treatment.
Powering The Challenge
With the mind set on passenger health and comfort, we are working in different projects where a power supply is needed to feed the UV lights installed in the air treatment unit. Premium´s OCS-260 is a one phase sinusoidal inverter up to 260VA that comes in a very compact size, which makes it the perfect fit for this application. The OCS-260 series is available with 120Vac or 230Vac output and a wide range of input voltages alternatives (12, 24, 36, 48, 72, and 110Vdc). It is cooled through natural convection and offers the high reliability needed in railway operations.
All Premium´s power conversion systems are designed according EN50155 and EN45545-2 standards and ensure requirements needed to operate under rough and critical conditions, offering a 5-year warranty.
